Montana Tech Engineers Witout Borders: El Salvador Road Construction Project.
Engineers Without Borders is a humanitarian organization that works on engineering projects in 3rd world countries. The Montana Tech chapter of Engineers Without Borders is currently working  on our road construction project in El Espino, El Salvador. The goal of this project is to engineer and implement a new culvert system that is to run underneath a bridge located on the road. The current bridge often becomes flooded during rain season which leads to erosion and structure damage .If this continues much longer, the bridge will become impassable and the surronding villages will have no effecient route to their school, hospital, and cities.

(dropoff off the side of the road)

The plan we have engineered calls for a better, larger volume, culvert and a more effecient runoff route. All of the planning for this project is done it is now just a matter of traveling to El Salvador and implementing it. The cost of plane ticket  to El Salvador costs around $1000 so we are trying to raise as much money as we can so that the maxium amount of people can come. This way the work is going be done faster and more effeciently. We are trying to raise $7000 before our first trip in late December. On this trip, we will fly to El Salvador for two weeks and work on the project with our advisors and local villagers.(local school childeren and their teacher)
(Advisors Sonya and Butch with some local residents)

We plan to have the project completed by the end of our second trip in March. The money donated will go to plane tickets, construction supplies, and food/shelter for our workers. Any amount of a donation is appreciated and will go to a good cause. This project offers the chance to help people in a third world country gain access to health, education and other neccesities, while at the same time providing a surreal and unforgettable experince for the people involved. If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to call or email me.
