Spring Creek Community Center

Donation protected
During the 1920’s local farmers donated the land, hauled the rock and supplied the labor to construct the school. Due to consolidation of the Madison County Schools this building was abandoned in 1989. In March of 1999 a group of local citizen volunteers organized the Spring Creek Community Center Board. Their goal is to restore the stone building and attract needed resources to strengthen the community economy and identity. Ideally, the old school will become a new active community center providing a place for all ages to learn, socialize, and obtain some local employment to help preserve our rural heritage and family farms.

After restoration on one wing of the building and the floors in the gymnasium, funds have run short.  In March the Board sent out a newsletter requesting help from the local community for further restoration. The community responded enthusiastically, sending money to buy windows and otherwise contribute to the restoration.

The finished wing now holds a library, a community room, a massage room, and a restaraunt.  However, the Gym has no heat.  The bathrooms next to the gym are unfinished and also lack heat.  This means the gym mostly sits unused.  The gym is the perfect spot for events, concerts, and excercise during the winter months.  In addition, the second wing is still falling apart.  The floors have rotted, and the walls are mostly gone.  This wing, would be perfect for art galleries, a health clinic, and other much needed community areas.

The Spring Creek community Center is a beautiful historic landmark with a long history.  While the community has banded together to see it not fall to the ground.  We need help in restoring this amazing old school house and center of our community to its full potential.  So often places like this crumble and fall away in to nature, or bulldozed to make way for something new.  We are trying to not let that happen, and to preserve a part of our history.  The community has gone through some hard times, and many moved away.  We believe restoring this landmark will help our community grow and prosper.  So we are here and asking for your help and support!
