My husband's Life
He loved to tell me stories of his time playing softball and how many tournaments that he had gone too. As a player and even as a coach of a women's softball league. He had also been an umpire. Which he had a love hate relationship with.
My husband also like to tell me stories of when his nieces were young that he'd play hide and seek with them, but they would tell him, "Uncle Steve, you're not a good hider." So it was an inside joke of ours throughout or life together.
He also joked that he told the best secrets and I would tell him, "Yep you do, I hear everyone one of them." Because I heard what he was whispering to one of our cats.
My husband always claimed he only liked my cats. But I always knew that he loved them. Now that he's waiting for all of us in heaven he can admit that he loves my cats, because he won't have to worry about the pain when we have to say goodbye to them, since he will be the one that they will be going to when I have to say my final goodbyes to them.
We loved getting away to Las Vegas, not just for the entertainment, but for seeing the sites you can only see in Nevada and the surrounding states. But our favorite trip was our trip to Thunderbay Canada in 2015.
This was a joyful trip, seeing the beauty of the many falls and the glory of the North shore. We had taken our time on the drive home and had a lovely morning in Grand Marais, MN. He told me that his favorite trip with was this one, because we had slowed down and just enjoyed each other's company.
My Husband's Final Days
My husband had stopped at a gas station and was short of breath and in major distress on Thursday. A good smaritan had noticed he was having trouble and rushed into the gas station to have the attendent dial 911. The gas station did that and sat with my husband letting the EMT know how he was doing while the ambulance was enroute. (What I learned from the attendent when I picked up my husband's car was that my husband was worried that the ambulance wasn't going to get there in time and kept saying, "If it doesn't get here I'm going to die." The attendent also told me that he was hopeful that my husband would be okay, because he had walked to the ambulance when it had arrived.)
But it wasn't in time, because my husband's heart stopped in the ambulance due to his blood pressure dropping. The EMT's were able to get his heart beating again, but it took 20 mins and my husband had been without oxygen to his brain, because his blood wasn't pumping.
At the hospital they had cooled his body to try and stop further brain damage. So Thursday I knew there was that dreaded possibility I was going to have to let my husband go. That night while I tried to get some sleep at the hospital I had prayed for a miracle.
Sadly, it wasn't in God's plan to grant me that miracle and when we did the testing on my husband's brain on Friday, it showed severe brain damge. Knowing that my husband would not want to live that way, I said my goodbyes to him letting him know how much I loved him and that I really hated to have to let him go.
The doctors weren't sure how long my husband would live before he passed away. But God was merciful and took him home in ten minutes after the nurse removed the ventilator. Which was also a merci to me, since my husband didn't have to suffer any longer.
What my husband meant to me
My husband was a very kind man and I loved him more than mere words could ever express. He was my soulmate. And a piece of my heart has been taken with my husband to heaven with him.
Sometimes a video shows more about what a person was like than what I could ever explain.
His love for my cats was one of the many things I loved about my husband. And is also one of the things that makes losing him is so very hard on me.
He was my shoulder to lean on and to cry on. He was always willing at a drop of a hat to give me a hug when I wanted one. I'm going to miss him, even though in spirit I know he will always be by my side.
I will cherish his memory and the time we were able to spend together.
What The Funds Are For
First I want everyone to know that my husband didn't have an insurance policy, because he was working part time at Coburn's, so everything is falling on my shoulders when it comes to his final expenses and my life without him being a part of it.
*My Husband's Cremation - $1,645.00
*His Urns - $470.00
*Medical Examiner Fee - $50.00
*Death Certificates - $43.00
*He was giving me $1000.00 a month for housing expenses and joint bills.
