Detroit Fire Department Clown Truck
Donation protected
Since 1938, the Detroit Fire Department Clown Team has been bringing joy, smiles, and tons of fun to Detroit area children and adults. Their famous routine at the Thanksgiving and St. Patrick's Parades in Detroit have made them a favorite for the crowds.
In 1958, Ford Motor Company donated a brand new F100 pick up truck to the Clown Team and they are still using that same truck. It has 10,000 "clown miles" on it- meaning parade miles and abused by clowns. ;) It is a 3 on 3 transmission, so not every clown can drive it. It needs a lot of work and constant love and attention. It's missing windshield wipers, has a broken windshield, missing door handles, leaky roof, has no heat or air conditioning, etc. etc. It sometimes breaks down during events.
The clowns have found a "new" old rig that will look like the old one- the one fans love and expect- but it will be better- with a rebuilt engine and automatic transmission, heat- air conditioning and all the "bells and whistles" that the clowns want to entertain the children of Detroit- (and elsewhere)- such as a confetti and water cannons and other clown paraphernalia. They want it to be the best fire department clown truck ever!
Until now, they have been helped by minimal donations from the Detroit Firemen's Fund, but the Fund has many worthy causes of their own and this is a needed extravagance that the clowns can't ask them to help with.
So, that's why this fund is started so that fans of the DFD Clown Team who want to be a part of this project can do so and know that their donations are going just to this project. (Any leftover funds- if any- would go toward clown supplies (face paint, bombs, costumes, etc,) or be returned to the DFD Firemen's Fund.
The work for the rig is set up and the worker's are all "in house," but the clowns don't want to ask that work begin, until they know they will have the funds to complete it. In other words, the shell of the truck is acquired, but no work will begin until at least $10,000 has been raised.
