Medical care for Katlyn
Donation protected
Nine year old Katlyn Demerchant was born without an immune system. Life has been really scary as we try to cope in a world of germs. In July, Katlyn had a bone marrow transplant. With the transplant has come complications. Katlyn has chronic norovirus and because the chemotherapy from the transplant left her completely vulnerable, the norovirus has really started to wreak havoc in her little vulnerable body. After the transplant Katlyn started to lose weight rapidly, and we could tell that something was terribly wrong. She was hospitalized due to malnurishment and severe dehydration. After 2.5 months hospitalized she is home and maintaining her weight.
She is on Nasogastric feedings as it is semi-elemental formula so her body can break it down easily. She recieves sub q injections twice a day to try and reduce the amount of void she has.
Recently her doctor applied for a medication through health Canada's special access program to help fight the norovirus. Because the medication is not commercially available in Canada, insurance will not pay for it.
We are looking for help in any way we can. Times are already tough as her condition means lots of frequent hospital visits 4.5 hours away and lots of medication. I have had to go off work to care for Katlyn as she needs around the clock care. Her father has a great job with the Canadian Forces, but you can only stretch the dollar so far.
Katlyn needs this medication immediatly. It has the potential to rid her little body of the norovirus. We almost lost her once from the norovirus. Go fund me does take 8% of all donations, so if you prefer you can also make a direct donation through paypal or by check.
Katlyn is my life. I cannot stand the thought of her needing this medication and us not being able to purchase it. Please help and please keep her in your prayers. God bless.
