SW Haitian Village Hurricane Relief
Donation protected
Hi there! My name is Nancy Douyon and I am a usability engineer in Sillicon Valley. I am from Boston by way of a rural area in Aux Cayes, Haiti, where my parents and majority family still reside. Aux Cayes is located in southwest Haiti where the storm hit directly. With Hurricane Matthew causing massive damage in Haiti, many people have asked me about the situation on the ground and how they can help.
Full disclosure: this gofundme page is personal.
While the media is covering the overall damage, what is not being reported is the storm's impact throughout the rural areas further inland. The majority of my community in Haiti were directly on the path that the hurricane hit. Thankfully, most of my family is officially accounted for. Unfortunately, we’ve lost our homes, schools and businesses. Further the community is mostly made up of women and children.
I am trying my best to figure out how I can allocate my personal resources to getting my village in a better situation but to be totally honest I can only do so much by myself. I would deeply appreciate any help that you can give with assisting with my community efforts, whether it is time or money. 100% of your donation goes to:
* Providing assistance with repairs and construction of shelters and roofs. (5k)
* Clean drinking water, proper sanitation, help recovering agriculture and livelihood losses. (5k)
*Rebuilding of family owned school in Haiti, serving ages three through nine .(10k)
Every dollar of your donation hires locals and buys materials. Not one dime will be used for personal expenses, travel or board. I personally will be overseeing all projects in December and will provide photos of our work (and receipts to those who want them).
In terms of time, there are a ton of volunteer work that needs to be done in the next couple months and you can sign up if you are interested in getting more of those details. Additionally, with your assistance, I hope to refocus my attention and talent in 2017 to address macro solutions that reaffirm the spiritual dementia of people impacted and displaced by natural disasters. The hope is that I can collaborate with major institutions and corporations, to create sustainable, long-term resources and solutions for how best to respond to natural disasters throughout the world.
Thank you so much for your consideration and I hope to share images of the progress!
(To donate directly to certain impact areas such as trees & agriculture, women & girls, energy, etc., please go to my outreach site and donate directly .)
