NCPA Employee Fire Relief Fund

On September 9, 2015 a wildfire started in Amador and Calaveras Counties, east of Jackson, California. This fire, known as the Butte Fire, has burned almost 71,000 acres and destroyed 475 residences. This fire is near the Northern California Power Agency (NCPA) Hydroelectric facilities and a number of our employees were evacuated from their homes as a result of this wildfire.
Just days later, on September 12, 2015 another catastrophic wildfire began in the Middletown/Cobb area of northern California and quickly spread to over 76,000 acres over the past week. Known as the Valley Fire, this wildfire has destroyed over 1,900 structures and displaced thousands of residents, including over 50% of the employees working at the NCPA Geysers Geothermal facilities.
Four NCPA employees have confirmed losing their homes to the fires and others’ homes have significant smoke and heat damage from the fire that may require repairs before they can be occupied. Restoration of utilities in the Valley fire area is expected to be a slow process and many employees remain displaced. These fires have been a devastating event for our employees and their families and we are reaching out to our Public Power friends with an opportunity to directly support our affected employees.
As a Public Agency, NCPA as an organization is limited in our ability to contribute relief funds directly to our employees. Therefore, we are collecting relief funds for our fellow employees and their families impacted by the fire.
We are seeking funds to cover basic living expenses such as clean clothes, lodging, meals and food during this difficult time. Please help us reach our goal of $20,000 (now $30,000!) by making any size contribution you can! We appreciate your support for members of the greater Public Power family! Every dollar will make a difference.
