FVHS College and Career Fair
Donation protected
Dear Baron Parents:
On Wednesday, October 14, 2015, all FVHS students will participate in a College and Career Day here on campus. Part of our mission is to make sure that every student is ready for college, career, and options for life after high school. We have put together a dynamic and meaningful day specifically tailored to each grade level.
To help us cover the cost of suppling students with this testing opportunity we have started a Go Fund Me campaign.
9th grade AND 10th grade students will take the New SAT ® Challenge. This test is designed to help our freshmen and sophomores discover how the newly re-designed SAT exam will be formatted and what to expect. The re-designed SAT will be administered by the College Board starting spring, 2016.
11th grade students will take the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) which is a program cosponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation. It’s a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT®. It also gives you a chance to enter NMSC scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools. Ordinarily, this test is offered on Saturdays for a fee, but once again this year, we will administer it for free. (Please consider making a $15 donation to help us cover the costs.)
12th grade students will take the COPS (Career Occupational Preference System) test which is an interest inventory to help guide students in their particular college and career goals.
Other ways to donate:
Write a check for $15 or more and put college/career day in the memo line or put cash in an envelope and label it FVHS College/Career Day. Drop off at the reception desk.
9th, 10th, and 12th grade students will also visit a college and career fair held in our very own FVHS Gym with over 80 colleges and businesses in attendance. Using the information from their assessments, students will use the College Fair as a comprehensive resource to allow them to more fully explore their educational, career, and training options. Representatives will be on hand to provide valuable information to our students and answer any general questions.
October 14, 2015 will be a special testing bell schedule; please refer to www.fvhs.com for details. All students will attend the College and Career Day in the morning, break for lunch, and then attend their normal 2nd period class.
We hope that you are as excited about this opportunity for your student as we are! Thanks for your continuing support for all the Barons at FVHS and your commitment to keeping FVHS a leader in academic achievement.
