NED MY HOMELESS MAN
Basically I started this go fund me for a elderly homeless man that I used to randomly see in the city and I had little information on. I realised I hadn't seen him in a while and was worried about him. My first thought was to locate him, maybe organise him some shelter and hopefully relocate his family that are between Istanbul and Western Australia (we think)
Little did I know that the next day, after approaching a new younger group of homeless men they told me where I could find him.
Located under a tree in the Middleton Hyde park in Sydney, lay Ned. Having not eaten in 3 weeks, and not being able to move for 8 days he was severely dehydrated. However I didn't know that at this time. As I normally do when I see him I got him food and water and had a quick chat, then went off to work. On Friday when I finished work, with Gail force winds and the temperature drop I decided to go check Up on him... that's when I realised he was in bad shape. He had moved from the position I had left him in from that mornings and that's when I called 000 and got him to st Vincent's.
At first we thought he would be in over night and so I started to organise clothes donations. It wasn't till a visit back at the emergency department early Saturday morning we realised that it was something serious. I got a call at 6pm at work saying that they needed to urgently transfer him to prince of wales hospital in Randwick to the spinal ward as he in fact has fractures and broken his back from the T12-L5 vertebrae's
So off I went and last night we transferred him to Randwick.
He was very scared, very lonely. This is where Ned and I are at.
Ideally I would like to get this story out, to raise money to help this elderly man that society has forgotten about and get him the medical attention that he now needs. After surgery I would love to be able to place him in a nursing home of find him a place to stay with continuous mental and medical support. I would to find his family as he talks about them often and I am sure that being homeless on the streets for 13 years he has lost contact with them.
So please help me, support Ned. Anything you can generously donate wether it be time, money, calls and emails... I would appreciate it, Ned would appreciate it.
