Joey Nederlander Tribute
Donation protected
Joey Nederlander was 25 years old when he passed away on July 12, 2016. He was a young man wise beyond his years with a tremendous sense of humor and an insatiable desire to help others. He was loved by everyone. Those closest to him are shattered by his loss.
I am Joey's Mom and I am dedicating this Tribute to carry on the principles that guided his life with a goal of raising $10,000 .
It is now 3 weeks since we lost Joey and I want to update you on a few things. First, we now know that Joe's death involved foul play. We will continue to work to find answers and bring whomever is responsible to justice.
Next, this campaign has been viewed by nearly 2,000 people so far. 88 people have shared this Tribute and to date, we have raised $2,590 with the support of 18 donors in 20 days. Please help continue this campaign!
Of the $2,590 raised so far, $1,500 was dedicated to support the cost of a Candlelight Vigil in Joe's memory on Saturday, July 23rd. It was a beautiful and moving ceremony with family, friends, lots of love and tears.
We have also raised approximately $1,000 towards grief counseling with a goal of raising an additional $4,000.
This will support the cost of one on one grief counseling for 6 people. I can tell you that many more have been affected by Joe's loss and we need your help to find a way forward. Please share this Tribute in your networks. Please consider making a donation of any amount today. Your help is needed NOW!
And finally, I plan to continue this campaign to raise an additional $3,500 for Clarkston Community Schools. Joey quit school in his senior year because he felt he didn't fit in and there was no learning material he didn't already know. He was shy, sensitive, extremely intelligent, and creative. He was not challenged by the curriculum. He rejected the cliques and "structures" he viewed as nonsense. I insisted that he finish, but, he told me he would take the GED and prove it to me. And, he did. He did not study for the exam. He took the test and when his results came back he scored in the 99th percentile.
Joe was, in his own way, a pioneer of his time. But, he was forever plagued by his social experience in high school. As he matured, he became an ambassador..an advocate to all he met to provide support and encouragement no matter what the challenge or situation. He was a true friend, a peacemaker, and he vowed that anyone he knew would not feel the fouls of peer pressure and victimization he had experienced in high school.
Quality education, social, and cultural experiences are critical to the well rounded development of our youth. I know I am not the only one to say that our public schools are broken. It is a discussion we have at every level of government and community..and yet, we can't seem to fix this problem. WE CAN.
I hope that you will choose to make a donation of any amount today. I am grateful for your support. Together, we can make a difference.
