Hello
My name is Matthew and I have run out of options. I seek help from sympathetic members of the public who have been through similar circumstances.
Let me thank you now for clicking on my page.
I am a 70% disabled veteran who has been in the military since 2005. Because of my mental health and physical issues obtained from serving I have a hard time working full time hence I work for the National Guard on a part time limited basis.
I have served during the Hurricane Katrina humanitarian relief effort in 2005, was deployed during Operation OEF Afghanistan 2006-2007, Operation OIF Iraq 2009-2010 and Operation Saber Guardian in Romania summer of 2016.
In Novenber of 2016 I was away working out of state on TDY for the Oregon National Guard. My new storage unit that I have only had for one week at A+ storage at 2200 N Pacific Hwy, Woodburn, OR 97071 was robbed. Both of my locks were drilled through and over $11,000 worth of items were stolen. My unit was ransacked and all of my tools were taken as well as my electronics, household goods and irreplaceable items that I collected through both deployments. The remaining items that were left were smashed, broken and the boxes were torn open with utter disregard. The management was not helpful and confessed to taping open the security doors because the locks were inoperable. They also stated that no security footage was avaliable.
On November 27th upon the discovery of the theft I filed a police report with the Woodburn Police. The Case Number is #16-13969. Later I contacted JAG, three newspapers and three TV stations in my local area. On December 28th 2016 I was interviewed by Christine Pitawanich from Channel KGW8 news. On December 29th I was also interviewed my Mr. Simon Gutierrez from Fox 12 PDX TV. Thank you all for helping me get my story out to the public.
Unfortunately, I waved the insurance on the unit when I first rented it on October 23, 2016. I was moving on a limited budget and could not afford any other expenses.
As far as what was stolen I am only looking to replace the basics. My tools were my lifeline. Not only did I use them for work I also used them at home to work on my 40 year old truck and motorycle that provide all of my daily basic transportation needs. Without them nothing can happen. I am struggling to replace them piece by piece.
I never thought that I would have to ask anyone to help me rebuild my life and recover what has taken over 20 years to build up. I have always been resilient and have been able to bounce back after many issues in my lifetime. This time is different. I need help.
I thank you once again.
