New Lungs for Makayla
Donation protected
Makayla is a sweet 4 year old who is fighting cystic fibrosis. Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening disorder that damages the lungs and digestive system with an average life expectancy of 38 years, but with medical advances, many live much longer.
Makayla spent most of her life in the State of Maine foster care system. After 807 days, she was adopted on January 25, 2019 into a loving family committed to giving her the best life her condition will allow.
On February 2, 2019 she was admitted to Eastern Maine Medical Center with low oxygen levels. She was administered IV antibiotics and oxygen. Her CO2 levels continued to rise resulting in needing to be sedated and intubated.
Today, Makayla is scheduled to be transported to the Boston Children's Hospital to wait on the transplant list for new lungs. Specialists anticipate she will be in Boston for, at least, a few months before transplant surgery.
This fundraiser is to help with costs associated with traveling, meals and lodging in Boston for her family along with at-home costs while being unable to work during this time.
