Newton & Keily Emergency Fund
Donation protected
On the evening of January 8, there was an explosion of a scuba dive tank on the Utila Cays, causing Miss Keily Sarahi Pineda Alberto to lose her life and Mr Kenneth Newton Diamond Cooper to lose his leg.
Mr Newton suffered a massive amount of blood loss and needed to be taken to La Ceiba immediately. He was interned in the hospital for surgery (the first of 3 planned surgeries), to stabilize his condition, and needed several pints of blood. We’re happy to announce that he is recovering well, however he will have a long and slow rehabilitation ahead, yet we have faith that he will overcome this incident.
Keily was only 16 years old and she lost her life in this tragic accident. Her family is from the mainland but she’s born and raised on the Utila Cays and her body will be laid to rest here.
We’d like to thank the entire community for coming together when called upon to help in time of need. Now we are reaching out for your support to gather funds for Newton's ongoing medical bills, as well as to cover Keily's family's expenses and to assist them during their time of grievance.
In person donations can be made at the Utila Dream Ferry office in Utila town to Alisha Bush.
Please share this campaign on social media so that we can reach out to more potential donors. We will continue to provide updates on Mr Newton's medical recovery.
Many thanks for your generosity and support during this difficult time.
