Hello,
This is our friend Matty, who lives in New Zealand. You may be familiar with the land of New Zealand from Peter Jackson's movies about the Lord of the Rings, and such. Not everyone who lives in New Zealand is a Hobbit, as you can clearly see. Some New Zealanders do have burdens; burdens the likes of which Frodo dealt with. Frodo was able to make that trek to Mount Doom because he had the love, and friendship of all his friends in the Fellowship. Matty has our Love and, Friendship, and we're trying to help her. Here is why.
Matty is homebound the majority of her life. Since birth, she has dealt with physical health issues which require braces, and assistance in order to do many of the most simple of tasks. For Matty to put together even a small LEGO set - something that most healthy people are able to do within an hour, or two - can often take her multiple days, and requires the assistance of her health care helpers who are not there 24/7.
Matty's main means of interaction with the world is her computer, and without a computer she has very little contact with many people who care for. LEGO brings great joy to Matty, and as she is a member of our reddit community on/r/lego we often send her care packages containing small sets for her to build. When she informed us of her computer dying on 28-2-2015 (NZ calendar ;) she worried that she may have to sell her LEGO sets in order to pay for her new computer. We were devastated. She has applied for a grant in New Zealand to purchase a new computer for her since she is disabled and lives on government assistance. They have denied her claim twice already, and she is distraught.
As a community, I am certain that we can raise $1000+ in order to purchase her a new computer. If everyone gave a dollar, a quarter, or even a dime it would be more than enough to ensure this beloved member of /r/lego, and reddit is able to interact with her friends, loved ones, and fellow LEGO fans and avoid all the ill feelings that come from a life of isolation and loneliness.
Other community members have gone through our own medical, and mental health issues, but we can only imagine living with such challenges every day. Matty is one of the strongest people in the world in order to keep waking up everyday dealing with what she does.
