Stress, Spirit and Science

It's time for me to broadly share the knowledge and wisdom I've acquired during more than 11 years of assisting public safety and citizens with grief, stress, trauma and disaster relief via the Bay Area Critical Incident Stress Management Team, the California Fire Chaplain Association, Jordan International Aid and others.
Your contribution will allow me to complete the book Stress, Spirit and Science, which is bringing together recent insights from health psychology (hint, forget about stress reduction) with traditional spiritual wisdom. You'll also be enabling me to continue to offer local crisis intervention and deploy to major incidents such as the Haiti earthquake and California fires (as in the photo of me by K-Love Crisis Response , above), by covering the costs of tuition and equipment.
See a summary on Slideshare.
My training and experience have (at last!) qualified me to become an Approved Instructor with the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation. I have also recertified as an Emergency Medical Technician and am working on wildland fire certification, which includes challenging physical conditioning.
I have an immediate need to cover the cost of tuition and testing for the instructor course - a bit more than $1,000. Uniforms and equipment - safety, communications and a Fireline EMT medical kit - carry a cost of nearly $4,000. Tuition, so far, has been more than $2,500.
My own journey through high-stress careers, trauma and losses, as well as the testimonials I receive from those I assist, convince me that I'm called to this work now. Help me continue it!
I'll happily send an autographed copy of the book to anyone donating $50 or more. And all contributors - financial, emotional or spiritual, will have my deep gratitude, of course. Although much of what I actually do in crisis intervention is confidential, my blog will offer regular updates and insights.
