Noah's College Struggle

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Noah Blessing.

I find it uncomfortable to ask for money. But after days of contemplation and talking to friends who were supportive of the idea, here I am. I suppose desperate times call for desperate measures. My story is long, so if you're short on time, feel free to read the bolded text.

In the fall, I will be a sophomore at Sam Houston State University. I entered as a theatre major, but after a year of hard work, I was accepted into the BFA Musical Theatre program. I am so excited to finally be able to pursue my passion!

Unfortunately, this was just one light at the end of an extremely dark year. During Christmas break, my mother discovered that I was gay. Because of my family's religious views, I was disowned. I was able to finish the year by making payments towards tuition by working at Pita Pit.

From a young age I knew who I was. It was difficult for me to hide my true self from my family, but I knew it was something that I had to do. Being gay is a part of me, but it is not all of me. I have dreams and aspirations that are so much bigger than my sexuality. If you are a part of the LGBTQ+ community, you understand how hard it can be. I pray that one day we can achieve the tolerance that we all deserve, but for now all we can do is our best.

I now work for Pita Pit and SHSU University Advancement, and I am looking for a third job. I work as hard as I can every day in order to support myself. But even being the optimist that I am, looking at this next year seems nearly impossible. On top of making payments toward my tuition, I currently do not have a place to live lined up for next semester. Many friends have been incredibly helpful and caring in regards to my housing situation, but I would love to be able to pay my own rent.

When dealing with governmental funding, I'm once again in a bad place. Because I am over 18 but under 24, I am unable to file as an independent. This makes me ineligible for all grants and some loans from FAFSA. I am doing all I can to pay for school, but all I can is simply not enough.

I understand how hard it is to donate money to some college theatre kid. But I could not begin to explain how grateful I am for every penny donated. You are helping me pursue my dream of graduating college, and for that, I am endlessly thankful. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I appreciate kind thoughts, prayers, and donations!
