ON SEPTEMBER 7, 2010 I WAS FACED WITH THE WORST POSSIBLE EVENT THAT ANY PARENT CAN LIVE THROUGH. THE LOSS OF A CHILD.
My son, Andy, age 20, struggled with anxiety and depression. In his quiet suffering he turned to opioids for help, this put him on a roller coaster that he couldn't get off. This is a story that is repeated too many times. The amount of people affected by his death stretched well beyond his family. It was a loss that left a massive gap, an empty bedroom, a missing dinner plate, an empty space under the Christmas Tree and one less birthday celebration.
It is time we face the magnitude of this problem. The drug problem facing our society is out of control. It is killing mothers, fathers, spouses, children and friends.
Please help me to raise the funds needed to start a nonprofit targeting this problem. We must get pro-active in this battle. Through this nonprofit, I would like to bring this problem to the forefront. I believe that through doing this, it will finally bring about the research needed for successful recovery and treatment. Right now, it is now a revolving door of people getting admitted and re-admitted, the success rate falls well short of what is acceptable. I would like to be able to help support this research with the funds raised. We need to force change that is necessary to end this epidemic. There are at least one hundred people a day dying from opioids int the United States daily. Now, consider the other drugs that are killing people, the numbers become unimaginable. With added research, the treatment can become much more successful. Perhaps one day, this would allow us to help ease the financial burden of treatment for families. For the first time, there could be hope. But, first we have to raise awareness.
After doing the research it would cost thousands of dollars to get this up and running. I want to help, but, it takes all of us. I need your donations to help get this nonprofit off the ground. It will be money well spent.
