Heather's Breast Cancer Fight

Donation protected
This is a campaign to help raise the funds my sister, Heather, will need in order to go to Duke University's Medical Center to see their Inflammatory Breast Cancer specialist.

This is my incredibly brave sister's story:

In January 2015, Heather was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. She did chemo, had a lumpectomy, got 4 lymph nodes removed, and went through radiation. She finished radiation in early September. We had hoped that would be the end of her breast cancer story, unfortunately it was not.

In mid October, Heather started feeling bad in the same breast, and all of a sudden it was larger, hot to the touch and very uncomfortable. She was originally diagnosed as having mastitis, then when it didn't get better cellulitis and lymphedema.  When three weeks later she was still hurting and nothing was working, she knew things weren't right.  She asked her doctor if it could possibly be Inflammatory Breast Cancer.  While she had been doing research on lymphedema she learned about this rare, aggressive form of breast cancer and all of her symptoms pointed to it.  She pushed this topic and after several weeks of doctor's appointments, a biopsy was finally performed. It was confirmed that it was cancer, and then many weeks later after lots of questions and pushing, Inflammatory Breast Cancer.

Heather has been through three months of chemo at this point and was scheduled to have a double mastectomy near the end of May.  However, the skin is worse now than ever before and she is still in constant pain in that breast. She reached out to Duke University's medical center and now has an appointment with their Inflammatory Breast Cancer specialist.  Finally someone that has experience with this disease!  However, they do not take her insurance so much of these visits will be out of pocket, not to mention the expense of traveling back and forth, as well as the work her husband will be missing. Please help lessen their financial burden by donating whatever you can as every bit helps! Thank you for taking the time to read this and learn about my courageous sister!
