March 31st was a devastating day for Troop 1109, chartered by the Kiwanis of Cumming, GA. The Troop Quartermaster went to check on the Troop trailer, which is stored at a secure, gated storage facility in Buford. When he arrived, he was shocked to discover that the trailer was gone. According to the owner of the facility, he has not seen it for weeks. Everything the scouts use to camp and provide service projects has been stolen. Video tapes were reviewed, but only exist for the past 14 days. The theft appears to have happened before that.

The trailer housed all of the troop's stoves, camping equipment, camp boxes, tables, tools, propane, pots & pans, plates, cutlery, tools, patrol flags, and more. Not to mention the trailer itself, which the Troop had been "borrowing" through the generosity of one of its' leaders.

"We had several key donations and fundraisers over the past year that allowed us to have a fully stocked and prepared trailer, ready to support the Troop on our outings and community service projects-for the foreseeable future. It has taken other Boy Scout Troops years to achieve what we accomplished in less than a year. Sadly, we're back to where we started a year ago as a brand new troop. The boys are upset and in shock. With many planned community service projects, including the installation of a raised bed garden at Central High School, and a Camporee to attend in just 3 weeks-we are now challenged with very little resources. It's heartbreaking." says Tom Gillon, SCOUTMASTER.
