I'm raising money for the benefit of the OBS Ford Truck community, specifically the "areonose" division that includes the 1992-1996/1997 Ford F-Series trucks. There is a small demand for better and more accurate instrumentation for these vehicles and I'm striving to fill the void with a set of highly accurate digital gauges. The plan is to fully disassemble an existing factory instrument cluster and upgrade the empty housing with better electronics than the factory used. This new cluster will be used with new wiring and sensors that are much more accurate than most aftermarket gauge sets. This will enable truck owners to keep a better eye on what's going on under their hoods and prevent minor problems from erupting into larger, more expensive issues.
I've actually already invested some of my own money into this project. I have acquired a factory cluster housing to build the prototype. I'm also donating the use of my 3D printer, laptop, and various software needed to aid in the designing and construction of the first working prototype. The next steps involve designing the circuit boards needed and purchasing them along with necessary electronics for assembly. That's where the major expenses start, quickly adding up to hundreds of dollars. As with any project there's also countless other small details that add up to be a large part of the prototype cost.
There OBS ford community is large enough that we should be able to quickly reach the necessary goal with minimal donations from individuals. In fact, it should be large enough that most donations need only to be a few dollars. As a bonus, anyone who donates and then purchases a finished project will be allowed to use their donations as credit towards the price of a finished unit!
The sooner there is support for this from the community the sooner everyone will have the opportunity to have a stylish and practical upgrade for their trucks. I would hope to have a prototype wrapped up and fully tested in 6 months or less but the speed of this project will be dictated by the support received from the community at large.
Attached are photos of a few of my previous projects. One of those projects is a small gauge cluster specifically for these trucks. This gauge set already has the community talking and several members have purchased their own sets. The other photos are other personal projects, some of which have already been completed.
