Ocean Nomads Atlantic Row TWAC '17
It is just the two of us - Dylan Jones and Sam Weir that make up the Ocean Nomads team. We have set out to break the world record for crossing the Atlantic Ocean in a rowing boat, during the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge starting on December 12th 2017 on behalf of Make-A-Wish Australia Foundation.
- More people summit Mt Everest each year, and more
people have travelled into space than have crossed the
Atlantic Ocean in a rowing boat. This is why it is known
as one of the toughest challenges on earth.
We want to make the world a more adventurous place, inspire a new generation to explore, travel, set huge goals and try their best to achieve them. Too often people take their health for granted, and dont appreciate it until it is lost. This is why we love the work Make-A-Wish Australia is doing for children and teenagers with life threatening illnesses. Making the wishes come true for these children is a cause we want to help support and promote through our Atlantic Campaign.
- We will start in Le Gomera, Canary Islands and will
arrive over 2600 nautical miles (4800km) later
in the Caribbean island of Antigua.
- Our boat is a carbon fibre / kevlar design, not much
bigger than a family car. This is where we will live for
6 weeks, where will be rowing a relentless shift of
3 hours on / 3 hours off.
- To be successfull in breaking the world record, we
need to row at least 65nm (120km) per day, and finish
in under 40 days.
- We also need to be completely self sufficient, meaning
we need to carry with us all of our food and supplies,
without accepting any outside help for the entire row.
Please help support us, and the Make-A-Wish Australia Foundation. We will need as much support as we can get if we are to be successful in safely crossing the Atlantic Ocean and breaking the world record! We cannot express enough how greatful we are to everyone that helps us along our journey, but we hope you enjoy following our progress.
