Officer Wiggins Support

UPDATE:

The overwhelming outpouring of support for Officer Wiggins has been amazing.  At this time, we have achieved our initial goal to help support the Wiggins family in the months to come.  While we believe this is enough, we will reopen the campaign if necessary.

Thank you for your donations if you have already given, if you come to this page hoping to give, we ask that you consider donating to Ofc. Rousselle who was also injured in apprehending the suspect.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Josh Wiggins has been a police officer with an agency in Jacksonville, Florida for 12 years. On Wednesday, January 2, 2019, he responded to a call of an armed robbery to a business. The suspect fled in a carjacked vehicle and a pursuit ensued. As Josh was preparing to lay down tire deflation devices to bring the pursuit to a stop, and prevent injury to the public and to his fellow police officers, the suspect intentionally struck Josh at a high rate of speed with the vehicle. As a result, Josh has been in the hospital with significant injuries to his hip, leg, and knee. He has already had two major surgeries and may require additional surgical interventions. Josh is expected to make a full recovery from the head injuries he sustained, however, the leg injuries will require significant rehabilitation and a very long recovery is expected.

The suspect has since been charged with multiple violent felonies, including attempted murder, and may face additional charges as the investigation continues.

As a result of Josh’s attempt to apprehend this violent suspect, he will incur considerable expenses in his recovery, many of which will not likely be covered. Plus, the family will face a significant loss of income due to not being able to work additional duties, as most officers do to supplement their income.

Friends, colleagues and the community have rallied around Josh during this difficult time. The family is extremely grateful for all of the prayers and love received and wishes to express their sincerest thanks. Many have asked how they can further support the family, so this fund was created to ensure this assault on Josh does not place a financial burden on the family. Thank you for supporting this dedicated public servant, his two young children, and his wife, who will need to help care for him in the days, weeks and months to come.

This account will initially be managed by a colleague and friend, with the permission of Josh and his wife Sarah, who will be the beneficiary. 100% of the proceeds provided by GoFundMe from this account will go to Josh and Sarah to assist with his recovery.
