Help Ohara's (Christine's) Legs Heal!
What's this campaign all about?
We're raising funds so artist Ohara Hale (Christine Hale) can pay her medical bills after a terrible accident.
What happened to Ohara?
A few days ago, she was hiking through Iceland when, without warning, the ground gave way beneath her. She fell into a geothermal vent and badly injured both her legs. **She also suffered burns to her hands, which she uses for most of her work.** After being rushed to the hospital and given emergency burn treatment, the doctors recommended she fly to Montreal, Canada, to get care closer to home.
Where will my donation go?
Your money will help pay for: the Icelandic hospital bill (over $7000), emergency transportation costs, the unanticipated plane ticket home (about $1000, including the necessary 'upgrade' i.e. space for her injured legs) and any other costs ($7000+) associated with her healing, medication and skin graft surgery – plus her day-to-day expenses as she spends several months recuperating.
Why should I help?
Where do we begin? Ohara (Christine) has helped and touched so many people she's met around the world – now is a great time to give back!
-Has a poem or comic or zine or song of hers made you laugh or cry?
-Maybe you've seen her play a free concert at your favourite record store?
-Did you hear about her course teaching teens art-activism at POP Montreal with L.O.V.E. ?
-Perhaps she's donated her design skills to your own fundraising campaign?
-Do you read her weird and wonderful children's books to your kids or nieces or nephews at bedtime?
-Or, hey, maybe you just love the idea that people like her – truly unique poets, artists, philosophers – exist in the world, and you want to make sure she's healthy and happy so she can continue to create long into the future!
What if I can't give much money, or anything at all?
Here's the thing – Ohara (Christine) is the last person who'd want you to donate a penny more than you can spare! So only give what you can, and if you can't give anything, try to share the campaign with people who might be able to help (and send her some good vibes).
I just clicked on this link randomly and don't even know who Ohara is. How can I find out more about her and why she's so special to you?
Check out her personal site here! (Or check out one of her books and songs in the video below.)
I already know and love Ohara and donated to her– but I also want to keep tabs on her progress. What's the best way to do that?
Check out Ohara's Instagram account for her own updates (when she's feeling okay– please do be patient if you're hoping to hear from her directly). We'll also try to update this page with news and info about how to send her well-wishes!
Thank you sincerely,
The Team Of Ohara's Fond Friends (TTOOFF)
