Tax deductible
UPDATE on May 1, 2018
Thank you, we reached our initial goal of $7,500 in less than one week and per the Gruenwald's request we have raised the goal now to $9,000. Any additional funds collected (above the $9,000) will be added to the scholarship fund at Ramah in the Rockies in memory of Koby.
Please consider contributing to this project- so Koby’s name will live at Ramah for generations to come. Thank you for your continued support!
The Story
In the summer of 2014, our son, Koby Gruenwald, began his journey at Ramah in the Rockies.
He loved camp- it was his magical place of personal growth, adventure, and discovery. He loved mining, biking, dancing, and more. He loved the people he met, and the memories he made each summer. Camp was a place where Koby could be wholly himself.
Koby was a bright light- a child full of soul and spirit. He loved music, and he loved to play games. In March of 2016, Koby was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor. I think one of his greatest disappointments in this journey was not being able to return to Ramah. In January of 2018, Koby passed away.
Ramah in the Rockies has a special place in our heart, and our twins, Hannah and Micah, will continue their Ramah experience for years to come.
As the younger camper population has grown at Ramah in the Rockies, camp needs to spend more time and effort ensuring that they have suitable facilities for them, especially during unstructured free time when many do not yet have the maturity to select appropriate activities to effectively fill these periods. Additionally, as the camp population has grown to the point where there are approximately 200 campers at any one time at camp, Ramah needs to ensure that the older and younger campers have adequate time and space to interact with each other, whether in communal activities or mentoring/coaching ones.
To address this need for camp, we would like to create a camper game tent called "Ohel Koby" to honor his memory and joyful spirit. The game tent will be placed in the area where our campers live to become the central hangout area, rain or shine.
We will purchase picnic tables to go underneath and around the tent as well as various games to be used in the tent. We will also invest in a park-grade ping-pong table and an indoor/outdoor foosball table. We imagine that this new game-tent will become the focal point for many campers during their free time and we will have a member of our camper care team present to ensure that healthy social dynamics occur between the children gathered in and around the tent area.
We are honored that the camp would like to honor Koby with “Ohel Koby”- a place where people can relax, play games, and build community together. Please consider contributing to this project- so Koby’s name will live at Ramah for generations to come.
