Olicity Leaves Its Mark
“Olicity Leaves Its Mark” Project (UPDATED - SEE END OF STORY!)
Hello everyone,
This year we were thinking about something special to unite the fandom during the hiatus. This isn’t like anything we have done before. It’s a great challenge but what we’ve learned in the past (2 times Ship of the Year award winners) is that Olicity fans go BIG!
The Project:
- Celebrate Olicity’s legacy by dedicating a bench in their honor in a park of Vancouver (Where Arrow is filmed)
- The bench could now become a mini tourist attraction for fans all over the world who visit Vancouver and we would be helping to preserve a park and its valuable green space.
Project Goal:
- The goal of the project is to raise 4,000$ CAD for a 10 years dedication which is approx. 3,050$ USD depending on the daily exchange rate.
What is included in the dedication?
- All dedications include a single bronze plaque for inscription (maximum of 3 lines of text and 40 characters per line, including spaces and punctuation.
Keep up to date with regular announcements on our Tumblr (olicitybenchproject) or our Twitter (@olicitybench).
There will be two polls to vote in: one to determine which quote to include on the plaque and one to determine the exact location of the bench.
We have been in contact with the City of Vancouver and they have specific maps for the benches available in parks.
Other Details:
If you have any questions about the campaign feel free to contact us @olicitybench on twitter.
Thank you very much! Let the fun begin!
HUGE THANK YOU TO @smoakprince FOR THE ART! LOVE IT!

UPDATE:
Hi everyone,
WOW! THANK YOU! We want to thank everyone who donated (and donors still to come) for your incredible generosity and interest in supporting this wonderful and worthy cause.
Due to the amount raised we have enough for a bench dedication AND the opportunity to donate to a bee pollinator garden fund.
The donation to the bench (we have selected a gorgeous site in Stanley Park and are waiting on confirmation before announcing) means our brass plaque dedicated to Olicity (with the quote "We found ourselves in each other") will be a tourist attraction for the next 10 years. The funds will be put to good use in the maintenance and care of the park. In particular, the Vancouver Seawall, the world's longest uninterrupted waterfront path (28 km long).
Go here: http://vancouver.ca/parks-recreation-culture/stanley-park.aspx
for more information on Stanley Park, a national historic park in Canada.
Also, please note that the park is on the shared territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. There are several areas in the park with art and totem poles from these nations that will benefit from our bench dedication donation.
The bee pollination garden fund came from the pop up park at the southeast corner of West Fifth Avenue and Pine Street with over 1,500 plants to help support bees and butterflies in the neighbourhood, created by the Vancouver Park Board on November 19, 2016.
The park will:
- Provide a neighbourhood meeting space with outdoor tables and seating,
- Include trees and a large wildflower meadow to benefit bees and other pollinators,
- Have reused and recycled materials to demonstrate sustainability, and
- Jumpstart park creation in Kitsilano's Burrard Slopes area thanks to the demolition of a City-owned building.
In Spring 2017, Vancouver Parks will work with the City of Vancouver to seed portions of the Arbutus
Greenway with wildflower meadows for pollinators.
April 2017: Planting native flowering shrubs in Everett Crowley Park as part of an Earth Day event in partnership with the Everett Crowley Park Committee.
2017: Tilling and seeding a 1.3 acre (0.5 ha) site along Highway 1 to create a large wildflower meadow to benefit bees and other pollinators.
Ongoing: Vancouver Parks will continue to support a citizen science initiative by Environmental Youth Alliance to monitor the pollinator community in a variety of parks. (YAY SCIENCE!)
So thank you, Olicity Fandom, for coming together to support these incredible parks in the city of Vancouver as well as showing just how powerful it can be when people from all over the world unite behind something they love.
We have come together to support the environment and something we all love. You guys are the literal best.
XOXO,
J&J
