Olivia's Journey

What started off as what was thought to be a simple ER visit ended up turning into much more complicated and serious health concerns. On March 2nd Olivia [7 years old] was brought to the emergency room in Andrews, TX for what was thought to be strep throat symptoms. She was then transferred to the children's hospital in Lubbock, TX as her kidneys began to fail. She stayed in Lubbock for 2 days and was then airlifted to Children's Cook Hospital in Forth Worth, TX as her health was deteriorating even more. On March 5th at Cook Children's hospital she was diagnosed with a rare chronic kidney disease known as Complement 3 glomerulopathy or C3G. C3G has had a major impact on Olivia's health and will continue throughout her life as the current treatment is to manage symptoms and attempt to slow the progression of the disease. She has been through many procedures with complications from having an allergic reaction to treatment, from her heart stopping before a catheter placement in her stomach for at home dialysis could be done. She is not alone in all of this as her mother, Maria Caballero [single mother of 7 girls] has been along her side throughout Olivia's medical treatment. Maria has not been able to return to work as she is the primary caregiver for Olivia. The proceedings of this fundraiser will go towards the bills that have accumulated while Maria has been off work and towards the renovation of their home so when Olivia is able to go back home, she can live in an environment suitable to her medical needs as she will be having to do at home dialysis until she gets her kidney transplant later in the future. We want to thank everyone that has helped Maria and her family as they go through these difficult times and for continued help along the way as Olivia continues her treatment for this rare kidney disease. God bless.
