Janna, my best friend & blogger of Girlie Tomboy Nails, was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer in September of 2016.
It's a fairly rare type of Breast Cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, only 1% of all breast cancer cases in the United States are Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC). It's also very agressive. She was diagnosed at Stage III-B after experiencing symptoms for a short amount of time.
Janna has no family history of cancer and is in her late 30's. Since receiving the diagnosis, she has completed 16 chemotherapy treatments, followed by a modified radical mastectomy with axillary lymph node removal on April 6th, 2017. Her fight doesn't end there. Once she heals from surgery, she will begin 6 weeks of radiation, with the potential for reconstructive surgery 18-24 months later.
The Colors by Llarowe charity nail polish has been created to help Janna and her family with expenses related to her cancer treatments, as well as to help spread the word about IBC.
The polish will be making its debut in New York City at Polish Con Saturday, April 29th, 2017 and will be available for sale on the Llarowe website beginning Monday, May 1st, 2017. All proceeds from the sale of this polish will be donated to One Headlight Charity Fund.
Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is an aggressive, rare and fast growing breast cancer in which cancer cells infiltrate the skin and lymph vessels of the breast. It often produces no distinct tumor or lump that can be felt.
IBC is often difficult to diagnose because it frequently does not present as a lump. Instead, women notice symptoms such as redness and swelling or enlargement of the breast that are often mistaken as an infection, delaying diagnosis. By the time IBC is diagnosed, it is at an advanced stage (i.e., stage III or stage IV).
