“The greatest rewards come when you give of yourself. It’s about bettering the lives of others, being a part of something bigger than yourself and making a positive difference” Nick Vuijcic
My Dear Friends and Family
As many of you may (or may not) know I’m coming up on a milestone birthday celebration! As excited as I am to be reaching this point in my life, I’d like to use this opportunity to draw attention to a cause and community that is close to my heart.
A few years ago I joined the Community Outreach Committee (COC) at my job, where we did various community outreach projects. In 2016 we volunteered with Habitat for Humanity where we helped repair homes in the Woodbourne-McCabe neighborhood, a community that has seen its fair share of difficulties, disadvantages and poverty. Over lunch, Ms. Phyllis, the neighborhood leader, described the extent and impact such poverty had on the local children. She told us how she would use her own funds to throw parties, provide food, shelter, school supplies and often protection.
My heart was moved after witnessing the conditions of the community, I simply could not stand by and do nothing. I was inspired to host a Harvest fest for the community that fall. We brought food, games, a petting zoo, and the local fire department for the Woodbourne-McCabe kids to enjoy. Seeing the smiles on their faces and knowing that I played a role in putting it there truly warmed my heart. But there is still so much left to be done. These children need care, support, mentorship and to be shown that they matter just like any other child!
I’d like you to join me as I celebrate my 45th birthday by celebrating others and feeding 100+ kids. On Saturday June 9, 2018, I will be throwing a block party with delicious food, great music, and engaging games for the Woodbourne-McCabe Community. In order to make this party a success we need your help! No donation is too small, and every gift helps us make a positive difference for the kids of this neighborhood.
