Organ preludes for all!

Donation protected
Hello. I'm Michael Cutler, a Winnipeg-based organist, choir director, accompanist, and composer and arranger. I work as music director at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church, and am an avid recitalist at the organ.

Since May 2015 I've been engaged in writing two pieces of music every week: one hymn tune (with no words, just music) and one organ prelude. As of right now (November 2015) I've completed one prelude in every major and minor key and have started on my second set, and have created over twenty-five hymn tunes. And all of these have been made available to anyone who wants here, on my blog. (or here is a table of contents for the hymn tunes , and here is a table of contents for the short organ pieces )

I did a little bit of math around this, though, and I figured that if I had been doing this writing on demand, I could have charged roughly $2,500, give or take. So I thought that I'd see if those who have been so wonderful and encouraging (and who have downloaded my works at this point over 4,500 times) would be interested in helping to fund the third such set.

Now, to be absolutely clear, I don't intend to stop the writing of my second set at all. And if it's not funded, I'll still probably continue on to a third set regardless, but it would be really nice if this composing work could help put some food on the table.

The "writing tips" segment is asking me why this means so much to me. That's a good question. These preludes are a wonderful opportunity for me to connect with my fellow organists and to offer something up to the community that otherwise I couldn't. It's an opportunity to hone my writing techniques and experiment with new ideas, as well as to infuse a bit of discipline in to my compositional habits.

How thankful will I be? Very. Very very. For all donations of $10 or more I will dedicate one of my weekly preludes to you or someone you designate. For ... more (how much exactly will depend on the details) I will write you a prelude, separate from the weekly work, based on a tune (in the public domain!) of your choice, for an instrument of your choice - something that's not a keyboard may require some help, of course. And I'm definitely available for commissions!

As of this writing, November 27, 2015, I've just published my third "Voluntary." I'll probably take a week or two off around Christmastime, but that means that I'll be done 24 Voluntaries by the end of May 2016. Let's see if we can fund my third set of short organ works by then!

P.S. for those interested, six of those preludes were recorded by me at a recital of November 1st, 2015.
