On August 31st ~ the day before fathers day ~ our lifes where shattered!!
My 7yr old Nephew Calyn saved the life of his 4yr old brother by pushing him out of the way of an oncoming 4wd but was not lucky enough to make it safely out of the way himself. Calyn was hit on the frontal lobe of his forehead at 60km/hr. by a bullbar, his life seriously in danger he was induced into a coma and rushed to the RBCH undergoing emergency surgery to remove part of his skull to allow his brain to swell and minimising the risk of him becoming brain dead. With a shattered and completely fractured skull, severe bruising of his brain and a broken clavicle our little hero fought a hard battle for 15days in ICU, his parents faced losing their little boy numerous times, our family and friends praying night and day holding onto hope that he would survive and stay with us. Though all the odds were against him somehow he survived and is now going through the long hard recovery process. During this time Calyn has showed his true determination to recover by learning to speak again as well as learning to walk again not once but 3 times. Calyn now attends school 4 days a week and is doing well with reading and maths. He loves music and to dance which is something he has always loved. Each day is not easy but each day is a blessing which Calyn reminds us of all the time. His smile is infectious and his courage is inspirational.
Thanks to the Australian community Calyn and his family have a new home that is specific to his needs and more, the family are now back together to move forward in their lives after the tragic events they have faced. With a lot of hard work, support, encouragement and therapies there is hope for Calyn to recover and life a full happy life.
We have now stopped actively fundraising for Calyn as he has received so much support the family feel there are many more that need the assistance. However if you would like to still contribute to Calyn's ongoing needs please know that any donation will be used to help Calyn and his family along this long path they are travelling.
Calyn and his family would like you all to know they appreciate from the bottom of their hearts all of the support an love they have received and contiue to receive.
