Our preemie baby Maverick William

We prayed for our child and he came extremely early and unexpected at 30.5 weeks, equal to 9 weeks and 2 days ahead of schedule. The hospital care was outstanding and tried to slow the process but he was coming after 13 hours of contractions. An emergency c-section had to happen due to him being breech. He had a breathing tube at first since his lungs weren't strong enough to breathe on his own. He went through a long 6 week process, including occupational therapy for his breech legs, speech therapy to help with nursing and education for mom around how to care for a preemie. If anyone has had to care for a preemie, this is an entirely different world than caring for a full term child. The countless trips back and forth to the hospital and sleepless nights wondering and worrying and not being able to take your baby home. Fortunately we were able to get him added to insurance, although being in the NICU for 6 weeks, even after insurance left us struggling. Unfortunately the billing departments for each separate area of billing (there's the doctor, surgery, mom's stay, baby stay, pharmaceutical, services and all the other charges in between) that never seem to end. Trying to work with the financial departments at each of these refuse to understand all the different bills you have coming in. Each want hundreds of dollars a month equaling way more than what we are bringing home a month after our other bills. This path was chosen for us and we can't change that, only work with it. Sad to say there is no protection or coverage for mothers when it comes to work. It is fatal to put a preemie into daycare during cold and flu season which causes the mom to be off work for months without pay. My company is separating me due to exhausting my FMLA available even though my doctor stated I couldn't return to work until after cold and flu season when daycare will take our preemie. God doesn't give you more than you can handle but support is appreciated for our little man. He is still needing care that include weekly weight checks, hip ultrasound to make sure his breech legs didn't affect his sockets (hip dysplasia) and breathing patterns since he suffered from sleep apnea in the NICU. Any help and support is appreciated for our beautiful miracle Maverick William.
