Tyler's Service Dog

Donation protected
Meet Nine-year-old Tyler Padgett. He lives his life with a seizure disorder called Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy that can include seizures that cause jerking extremities, staring spells and loss of consciousness as well as violent muscle contractions. Tyler also has Asperger’s a form of autism that can cause developmental delays in social skills, communication, motor skills as well as other struggles that most people take for granted. But really that isn’t important.

Tyler is highly intelligent and is a life long learner. He absolutely loves history and can be described as a walking encyclopedia. Tyler also loves animals. He aspires to be a zoo keeper specifically working with lions. One thing he also strives for is independence.

Tyler and his family are currently raising money through this page to adopt a therapy dog. This dog would be trained specifically for Tyler and help in many aspects of his life to help him become more independent.  Lots of can be very overwhelming for Tyler triggering him to run. If he runs he may be lost in large crowds or run into a busy street of cars. His therapy dog would be trained to sit down anchoring him via a tether attach to Tyler and his dog, preventing him from running away. The therapy dog will also be a sound board for Tyler’s anxieties and open up an avenue for Tyler to interact with people. This not only will help Tyler better handle his triggers, but also help him develop better communication skills. Tyler’s therapy dog will also give the family a peace of mind. Tyler is also a restless sleeper which can keep his parents up and worrying. Since Tyler is now able to open doors and even chain locks he could leave the house without anyone knowing so the therapy dog would be able to alert the family if Tyler is up out of bed at night.

Conservatively the family expects to need around $5000. Not only does training the dog to be able to handle Asperger’s which can cost around $2500, but there are also travel costs for the family to take part in the training (which can span a week or more) as Tyler learns how his therapy dog can help him as well as general costs for certifications of service, vests, and service harnesses. The family assumes there may be unseen costs along the way as well.

Tyler is a wonderful boy who deserves all the support this world has to give. Donate today and help Tyler achieve his independence with his own therapy dog!
