Amanda's Journey

If you don't know Amanda directly, you probably know her through family or friends. Amanda is the person that you instantly adore and feel like you have known forever. Amanda is a BSN at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Amanda received her RN in 2009 and her BSN in 2010. For nearly seven years now, Amanda has been devoted to helping those in need and is the kind of person you desire to have in your life. Amanda strives to make sure that everyone around her is taken care of and, often times, puts others' needs above her own. She is a rare kind of friend you can only find once in a lifetime. Unfortunately, on February 14, 2017, Amanda faced news that no one could expect or want to hear. Amanda learned that she had a tumor on her cervix and it had spread to her lymph nodes. On February 24, 2017, Amanda found out that her cancer is just as rare as she is. Unlike Amanda, her cancer is aggressive and unkind. She was diagnosed with Small Cell Carcinoma, Stage 4a. Her tumor is aggressive and is very large. Amanda will have to undergo chemotherapy five days a week and radiation once a week. Her treatment will occur for at least five weeks. Not only will this be exhausting but physically debilitating. As this was so unexpected, Amanda does not have the financial ability to pay for something so costly as cancer treatment. Please help Amanda as she begins her battle with cervical cancer and join her in this fight. Not only will she need treatment, but she will need our prayers, thoughts and support! Thank you for being a part of Amanda's fight and for your kind consideration.
