Paddle for Progress
Donation protected
My name is Waterway Jay Gustafson and I nearly completed with a project I call, Paddle for Progress. In an effort to raise awareness of the water quality crisis facing Minnesota, I quit my job of 10 years in July 2017 to paddle each of the 34 state water trails maintained by the Minnesota DNR. Thus far, I have completed 27 of those 34 rivers, covering all of southern and central Minnesota. I plan to continue paddling the remaining 7 rivers throughout northern Minnesota into October 2018.
With over 40% of our water now considered contaminated, it is imperative that the people of Minnesota understand the threats facing our water and the steps needed to reverse course.
My goal in paddling these rivers goes beyond raising the alarm about the need for further action however. I am also making maintenance recommendations to the DNR for campsites, landings, and channel conditions. Additionally, I volunteer with the Pollution Control Agency through their Citizen Stream Monitoring Program.
I am wholly committed to protecting and preserving the water we have in Minnesota as I believe it is our states greatest asset. With your donations, I can continue to bring this important message to the good people across Minnesota and work with individuals, nonprofits, and state agencies to help turn the corner.
Because I am asking for your hard earned dollars, I wanted to end with a breakdown of how I came up with the goal amount for this campaign. It is as follows:
Food/Grocery: $115/wk. x 26wks. = $3000
Gas: $77/wk. x 26wks. = $2000
Total: $5,000
This project is only possible with your support. With funding through this campaign, I aim to ensure that every time you turn on your faucet to eat, drink, or bathe, you can be confident the water coming out is clean, safe, and reliable.
Thank you,
Waterway Jay
