Help Poppy-Anne on her fencing journey
Donation protected
Poppy-Anne is 11 years of age and is from Jersey. She took up fencing after trying it at her local school 2 years ago. She currently trains out of the Jersey Fencing Club and prefers to fence within the 'Sabre' discipline. Since she started she has grown into a very capable fencer and has achieved success to date.
May 2018 she qualified for the British Youth Championships (BYCs) and finished 21st
November 2018 she travelled to Guernsey and won gold in the U11 category and bronze in the U14 category
March 2019 she travelled to Guernsey and won gold in the U11 category and bronze in the U14 category
May 2019 she qualified for the BYCs and finished 6th out of 34 fencers
This most recent success has given her such a confidence boost that Poppy-Anne wants to compete more frequently not only in Guernsey , but also in the UK. She has attended the Millfield International Fencing Camp for the last 2 Easters, and has also attended sessions at the Oxford and Swindon fencing clubs, helping to build relationships with fencers and coaches alike.
Unfortunately, these opportunities come at a price. This is where we are hoping to alleviate some pressure with these costs. The immediate target of 1000 GBP would help with:
- flights and course fees for the Truro Summer Camp in July 2019
- flights and course fees for the Guernsey Summer Camp in August 2019
- flights for visits to Guernsey for their remaining 2019 events and private tuition
Into 2020 there are further camps at Millfield in Easter & Summer , plus travel and accommodation for the BYCs and we would like Poppy-Anne to attend some of the UK based 'Leon Paul Junior Series' events that run throughout the year.
We would love to get Poppy-Anne to these competitions and camps to build upon a really positive start to her fencing. She absolutely loves to fence, she's passionate, willing to learn and works hard to improve her fencing skills. It would be great if we could hit the initial target and give her more opportunities. Her ultimate dream is to fence in the Olympics, we would love her to turn this dream into a reality!
