Hi friends.
On Friday, August 24th, I was at a stop sign and noticed a woman walking down Oakland looking very tired and sore. I rolled down my window and offered to give her a ride. I took her a few miles to the apartment where she is currently living.
On our short ride, Jamie shared that she cleans cow heads at a beef processing plant for a living. Due to car issues, she has been walking from Portage to Plainwell to be able to keep her job and support herself and her granddaughter that she is raising.
Jamie has been walking approximately 15 miles ONE WAY to stay employed and provide for her family. She starts her journey at 1:30 AM to make it in time for her shift at 6:00AM, where she then works 10+ hours and walks home.
I gave her my number on Friday and asked her to please reach out if she needed a ride on Monday. I am thankful she allowed me the opportunity to take her to work today and learn more about her story. I will just say this... Jamie has had a tough life. Yet, she keeps a positive attitude and is certainly worthy of a hand up. Please consider supporting this campaign to raise funds for Jamie to have reliable transportation while she continues to support her family.
Thank you friends. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions.
Much love,
Dawn
