Our non for profit organisation owns and operates the Palmyra Drag Strip just to the west of Mackay City Gates. Palmyra Dragway is run completly by volunteers. I am a commitee member for Palmyra Dragway and helping with the online fundraising and information that goes out to members and supporters.
2018 will see the club celebrate the 50th year of competition at our club owned and operated facility. We believe that our club is the oldest club owned and operated Drag Strip in Australia and has continuously been sanctioned by the Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA) The club up to now have managed to provide to local community with a complex where drivers can test and drive their cars and bikes in a controlled environment. This is why some of our events are called and aimed at “Keep the Speed off the Streets”.
The facility has a racing surface that is 27 years old and requires replacement and improvements to the safety barriers are also required.
Over the past few days (28-29 & 30th March) the facility has been extensively damaged form Cyclone Debbie, the track surface and facilities have been damaged and safety barriers that had already suffered damage are now even more unsafe. Every dollar we can raise here will assist the club in applying for other grants which require dollar for dollar matching. If no grants can be aquired then any monies raised here will be put back into the track, either with safety fencing or to help with the drainage.
Any funds raised will be transferred into Palmyra Drag Racing Clubs working bank account, the commitee will then collectively decide the best place for the funds to be spent to get the facility back up and racing safely as soon as possible!
Thankyou everyone in advance for there support!!
