Panther Racing Greenpower Fund

We are the Panther Racing Team from Pine Ridge High School in Deltona, Florida. Made up of students from the STEM Manufacturing Academy and AP Physics program and led by our instructors Jim Maynard and Laura Filipek.
As the first school in Florida to receive a grant from GreenpowerUSA, a global organization that uses motorsport as a basis for inspiring STEM education. We have a rare opportunity to compete in the Greenpower Electric Car Challenge Formula 24 Racing Series . This program gives engineering and physics students a chance to build an electric powered race car and compete in endurance races against other high schools from around the country at venues such Barber Motorsports Park, Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Rockingham Motor Speedway.
Participating in these races is expensive. We have raised enough funds so far to build our race car and enter into the season opener at the Jasper Grand Prix in Birmingham, AL on March 18th 2017. Our team still needs around $15,000 for travel and expenses to finish the US season and secure a birth in the international finals.
We ask for this funding not only for the experiences and opportunities it will give us, but we also want our efforts to inspire others. Our vision is to use our success as a pilot program to bring Greenpower racing to other Florida schools. Programs like this give students a new perspective on STEM education, focusing on hands on application and learning via experience versus traditional lectures and lessons.
