Activist stranded in Iceland

Alex is a progressive activist from Sweden who moved to Iceland for a job. She unexpectedly lost her job of twelve years and has had trouble finding a job with a full contract in Iceland. She's struggling with medical conditions which leave her in severe, chronic pain. She's been hospitalized for several weeks at a time. Recently, it was recommended that she go on disability. Disability pay barely covers her rent. She lives alone, so there isn't another person to help.

Alex needs to return to Sweden to renew her passport. It expired and she's stranded in Iceland. The Swedish embassy stopped renewing passports, so she has to buy a temporary pass for $600 Then fly to Sweden and get a new one for $400, according to the embassy. Alex was raised in a religious cult and has already overcome a lot. Because of this, she doesn't have family to fall back on.

Summer spent two days with Alex when she and her son visited Iceland. Alex is a kind and dedicated activist. She would text road conditions, northern lights websites, road emergency numbers. She cares about others.
