Lung Transplant Recovery for Pauly

Donation protected
Our brave, amazing Pauly needs your help!

A hard road
As many of you know, Pauly was diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 12.  He then persevered through and beat cancer as a young man.  The treatment required to save his life was very aggressive, however, and unfortunately took a toll on his lungs.

Over the past two years Pauly started experiencing increased difficulty in breathing.  He found it harder to enjoy the things he loves best- fly-fishing, backpacking, disc golf, and even creating art.  All these activities have been slowly waning from his life.  The doctors think something must have attacked his already weakened lungs, and on March 21st his lung collapsed.

He was rushed to the hospital by ambulance and has remained in ICU since that day.  Strength of will kept him alive, but was not enough to reverse the internal tissue scarring that enveloped and weakened both his lungs beyond repair.  Over time he required increased pulmonary and circulatory life support.

Gifts from heaven
On May 31st he was officially listed as a candidate for a double lung transplant.  Due to his critical condition, less than a week went by before he had a lifesaving match.  An 11-hour operating room transplant procedure was done.

Young Mr. Larkin successfully completed double-lung replacement surgery in early June.  The doctors, nurses and staff at UCSF have been wonderful and tireless in bringing about a positive end to an incredibly complex, painful and resource-intensive procedure.  Pauly’s road to recovery, however, is only just beginning.

Catching his breath
Though the transplant has presented Pauly with unprecedented hope for the future, his chances for a quality life depend on care at present.  Health insurance has covered much of the cost, but many out-of-pocket expenses remain.  We know how many people love Pauly and his family.  We feel being honest and open with everyone is the best way to see this story through to an amazing next chapter.

Only through the support of family and friends will Pauly have the greatest odds of achieving significant and lasting health.  A surgery of this significance truly requires as much support as our humble community can muster!  This is the reason for our campaign.  We all want Pauly to live his best life, his strongest life, as soon as he can.

Any donation, no matter how small, would mean so much to our young man and his family.

Even if you are unable to donate at this time, we ask that you share this campaign (you can copy and paste this link: https://www.gofundme.com/paulylarkin) with your friends and community, through Facebook or email, it really does help tremendously!

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your love, prayers and support for our Pauly.
