Pay it forward: Kidney donation
Donation protected
Ali Kiger — ”Otter Mayhem” to her Maine Roller Derby teammates — is donating her kidney to fellow skater Jonathon Lyon (Flyin Lyon) from Casco Bay Roller Derby. Otter will lose about seven weeks of wages and needs some help.
Otter and Lyon had never met when she agreed to give him her left kidney. “I just want him to be a normal 20-something and do flips on trampolines and all the stuff he used to do,” she said. “I can’t think of any reason I wouldn’t do this … Sure, this will cause me a little discomfort, but it could make a huge difference in his life.” … that’s just the kind of person she is. If someone needs something, she’s going to give. But now she needs us to give a little too.
Otter will donate her kidney on August 14. All money raised will go toward her and her family’s expenses and for any emergencies that pop up. Anything extra will go to Lyon and his family, who have withstood many surgeries (knee, kidney, femur …) and upsets over the last few years.
If you’re able to donate, please do. If not, good thoughts, happy notes and support are also welcome. Thank you!
