Pay it Forward Program- SALT Dominica
Donation protected
SALT Dive located in Toucari Dominica, aims to create, develop, and mentor eco-conscious divers and dive professionals who are ambassadors for the ocean.
The pay it forward program was developed in partnership with American Non-Profit - Taylor Lynn Foundation, as a way to offer no-cost scuba courses and continuing education to local teens. This program has exceeded expectations and graduates of the program are itching to move forward in their dive education. Dominican youth ages 10-18 may apply to the program by answering a few simple but thought provoking questions like what giving back means to them, what project or community service they will complete in exchange for this opportunity, and who will benefit most from their acts of kindness.
Surrounded by water their entire lives, there are plenty of Dominican children with an interest or passion for the ocean that do not know how to swim, or have never seen beneath the surface, and most thought scuba diving was too far out of reach to even dream of trying.
Thanks to the support of Taylor Lynn Foundation as well as friends and family- we have been able to provide cost free scuba activities and education to over 15 individual youth, and several groups in the past few months.
To offer continuing education programs to pay-it forward graduates we need additional funding, and this is what we are seeking here.
$35,000 Will be used over the next year for (approximately)
-25 swim students
- 50 discover scuba students
- 24 PADI open water certification students
- 12 PADI advanced certifications
- 12 PADI rescue certifications
- 24 CPR & Emergency First Responder certifications
- 5 PADI divemaster (professional) certifications
as well as an assortment of Specialty Certifications, Conservation Certifications, required gear, some transportation and meals for students in need.
We will continue posting the progress, projects, hard work and dedication of our program participants as they accumulate on our facebook page's pay it forward album as well as on the saltdominica.com blog (coming soon)
We are grateful for your help in supporting this program, to keep providing these golden opportunities and paying it forward.
Feel free to reach out with any questions regarding the program, participants, eligibility etc.
