The Period Power Project

The Period Power Project is a collective of women who have one goal that can create an enormous change in the lives of women in Colombia. Our goal is to get an accumulation of menstrual cups and deliver them to a town called Palomino in Colombia. We are going to host a musical event June 24th, in Toronto ON in order to make the proceeds to purchase the menstrual cups.
Once the menstrual cups are accumulated, Sofy Mesa will bring these menstrual cups this December to the women in Palomino, La Guajira, Colombia. She will host a gathering open to girls and women where she will be giving them away and giving them the proper education they deserve on menstruation, how to use the cups, and what it means to be in touch with one's body.
This is going to create an awareness on the benefits of the menstrual cup and will generate a safe space for women who don't normally have a safe space to discuss such things. Girls here are not educated on the different ways they can care for themselves when they have their periods. Alternatives to period pads are not often discussed. Girls do not have access to menstrual cups, while tampons and pads are extremely costly.
Distributing the cups to the community will make for a more sustainable future due to the fact that the cup will lend itself as an ecofriendly option since there is no proper waste disposal system in place. The menstrual cup will reduce expenses and waste. It will allow for girls to give back to the land with their blood and will encourage the concept of permaculture, benefitting the community in the long term.
In Colombia there is a 14 percent gap between women and mens’ wages. At times, girls have to miss school because they do not have access to materials that will make them feel comfortable at school. This exclusion increases the inequalities between genders.
Menstruation SHOULD NOT result in absences and girls shouldn't have to miss out on an education as a result.
As we are devoted to distributing menstrual cups to girls and women in this community at our fullest potential we are asking that you may consider supporting our cause. ANY donation will help achieve our goal.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
The Period Power Project
