RUB-A-DUB, THERE’S NEED FOR A TUB

RUB-A-DUB-DUB, THERE’S NEED FOR A TUB!

For the majority of people we all know, a bath is considered to be basic need, want or pleasure.  In fact, the shower has replaced bathing, to an extent, that a bath is often considered a special occasion.  Moods can be set with candles, music, subtle lighting and a myriad of lotions, soaps and bubbles.  Now, consider someone that cannot even consider such a luxury.  Consider someone that, without assistance, could not bathe or shower on their own.  Consider many of the residents of The Denton State Supported Living Center, most with severe physical and mental limitations.  This organization and these wonderful folks is where this quest begins.

We are the Point for Charity and come to this site with a unique challenge and the hope and dream of providing a new and exciting direction in our support for the DSSLC.  The eminently qualified and gifted staff of the Living Center are faced with many daily tasks that require specialized equipment.  One such challenge is bathing the residents, each of whom have their own unique needs and requirements.  Some may require a bathing system that assists in keeping their body in an upright position; something they cannot do on their own.  Some need the emotional security of physical support, eliminating a fear of sinking under the waters’ surface.  Still others simply need a variety of aids and devices to maintain a safe and hygienic environment for the most basic of human needs, cleanliness.

While we mainly focus on the needs of the residents, there is another factor to consider; the safety and welfare of the staff.  These ‘guardian Angels’ provide an incredible service to the many who live in the Center, often unheralded and quietly in the background.  These bathing systems are designed for optimum comfort, both for the patient and the one giving the bath.  The physical positioning of the staff member is critical in their safety and completion of their current responsibility at hand.  It is imperative that both the bather and the recipient of the bath have the most beneficial experience either could hope for.

The Point for Charity is on quest to raise $30,000 for the purchase of 3 ‘specialized bathing equipment’ units.  One such unit is the “Supine Series Bathing and Hydro-massage System”.   Their link can tell more of the story
With the success of this drive, 100% of the funds will go directly into a general account for the exclusive use of Habilitation Services.

We, at The Point for Charity thank you in advance for your time and consideration.  The Denton State Supported Living Center is an incredible organization dedicated to the betterment of life for the many who need that extra helping hand.

Thank you,

Board of Directors, the Point for Charity

We are a non-profit, tax exempt association under Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code, based in North Texas.

The Association is rooted in the 1999 efforts of a few folks who recognized the needs of the residents living at a local facility, the Denton State School (now known as the Denton State Supported Living Center).

The individuals residing there have severe and profound mental retardation. We assist the residents by raising money used to purchase items such as shoes, clothing, personal hygiene items and other everyday items. Funds donated to the school are also used for special wheelchairs, communication devices, and construction and maintenance of their work, hobby and recreation areas.

In 1999, the “originals” put their money together and were able to donate about $1,500 to the School. Since then, participation and individual donations grew so steadily that the next logical step was to form this Association, so that charitable efforts would be combined, focused and strengthened.

To date, the Association has raised over $315,000.00 for the School. We are working to make 2014 another great year. We have no employees. Directors, committee members, and other volunteers receive no compensation for any services rendered to the Association. Our expenses are kept to a minimum, because every dollar we raise goes directly to benefit of the residents of the Denton State School.

In 2007, the Association was honored to receive the Shotton Award from the School, for our efforts to help the residents of the School, and our continued commitment to do more.
