The Plait Ensemble is a new Australian ensemble, performing new original music composed by members in the group.
Led by New Music/World Music Specialist Bassist Elsen Price, the group also features Zela Margossian, Adem Yilmaz, Linda Taylor and Nigel Date.
This fundraiser is to raise funds for their debut album 'Chicken Chilli Basil', a collection of music composed by Price, taking inspiration from his own musical experience, plus also composing with the members of the ensemble in mind.
Each member of the ensemble brings a different musical tradition and musical experience to the group,
Elsen brings experience of a performance career starting in 2008, highlights including performance as a soloist at Sydney Festival, Vivid Festival, MONA and BassEurope, performing with Josh Groban (US Multi-Platinum), Mike Patton (Faith No More) and Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth) and performance with Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Offspring and many others. Elsen specialises in New Music and World Music both in work practice and as a composer, drawing inspiration from his collaborations with living Composers and Non-Western Performance.
Zela, Lebanese born Armenian Pianist, brings extensive experience as a Classical Pianist, plus adding her recent study into Jazz, and her knowledge of Armenian Folk Music. Zela is a prolific composer and performer, and is in high demand for her work in Sydney and abroad.
Adem, an in-demand percussionist from Istanbul, Turkey, brings extensive experience of performing Kurdish, Turkish and Contemporary Music, plus also knowledge of various other world percussion traditions. Adem is a key figure performing with some of Australia's highest regarded Middle-Eastern Ensembles, and high-demand for his virtuosity and musianship.
Nigel Date, a veteran Australian Gypsy Jazz Guitarist, has led a prolific career performing with many of Australia's great Jazz and Gypsy-Jazz Musicians, plus also electric guitar traditions of Rock, Blues and Country.
Linda Taylor, Sydney based emerging Jazz Vocalist, is both an in-demand performer and Vocal Teacher, and regularly performs locally and teaches at various leading music schools in Sydney.
The Plait Ensemble will be doing its official album launch at the Annandale Arts Centre on the 14th of September, tickets, plus many other great prizes are available for all donations towards this recording, including cds, lessons, and even concerts!
Please donate generously, as many Australians know, the Arts in Australia has hit very hard times recently, and many great local talents have had to either move or work 10 times as hard to make their art work in this ever changing cultural climate, Australian Arts Funding Cuts and problematic local, State and Fedral Governments. Your support towards emerging and established Australian Artists goes a long way, not only for the Arts, but for the ever changing Australian community, with its incredible diversity, innovation and freedom, the Arts is an important part of that, bringing people together, to enjoy what Australian's can do.
The $7000 needed from this campaign will cover recording fees, performer fees, cd production and concert promotion. Every cent will be used effectively and honestly, to create the best possible album available on this budget.
