Rural Mountain Community Needs New Playground for Elementary School -350 students positively affected!!!
We have applied for Kaboom's Build It Yourself grant. Which is a generous community build project, that requires us to ask members from our community to help build, install and fundraise for a new state of the art playground. To date, we have raised $25,375.20 for the playground equipment, BUT WE STILL NEED just around $9,000. to cover the costs of taxes, freight costs, site preperation, ground cover, and leftover fundraising that we didn't meet in the Fall. PLEASE make this happen for these kids.
This is the picture of our the courtyard before the build.... :( pretty sad, gloomy, and bare.
This is the AMAZING playground that has been installed - innovative, handicap accessible with state of the art equipment. Every single student at our school is BEYOND EXCITED for this playground. The smiles have been unending and it has really brought us all together as a school community.
The playground will not only affect the 350 students we presently have but every student that walks through the doors of Jonathan Valley Elementary for years to come. The playground structure we have designed is progressive, modern and developmentally appropriate for ages 4-12, there is something exciting for everyone.
In addition to the obvious positive affect of the playground to the students, is the aftermath and exposure the students will witness as their community works together to build something for the betterment of the community. So far the students have been involved in painting a flower mural on the brick wall, planting perennials in the courtyard garden, cleaning up the courtyard and weeding.
If you help us raise money for this playground, you can be sure that you will be helping the hundreds of students who come to school every day, work hard, take tests, stay up late to complete homework, navigate the social strains of peers and growing up ease these often difficult circumstances. The one thing we as teachers know that can help ease all of these circumstances is exercise through play. Please be a part of this very important community build. Thank you for your consideration, and PLAY ON!
