Please Help our Beloved Beauchamp Family

Please join us in raising money to help our beloved Beauchamp family who is currently in crisis and in need of our help.  After a long, excruciating and financially devastating barrage of tests Cheryl Beauchamp, mother of our dear friends Lonnie and Trey, has been diagnosed with a very rare and highly aggressive lymphoma.  Today the family was informed that the cancer is Stage 4 and, though treatable, will require chemo for the rest of Cheryl's life.

Cheryl, a devoted, hardworking and fiercely independent single mother, went back to school later in life so that she could raise her two boys Lonnie and Trey on her own.  She opened her own salon which she ran as a thriving business until she ruptured her gall bladder and was unable to tend to her devoted clients as she had done for so many years. Cheryl then developed severe hives and a mysterious abdominal pain which prevented her from working.  She could no longer sleep, eat or work and began to lose weight.  The salon eventually closed down, and Cheryl lost her medical insurance.

Missouri, where she lives, is one of a few states that doesn't participate in the federal Medicaid program, and after President Trump signed away the tax associated with not having health insurance, Missouri excluded tens of thousands of people like Cheryl from the Obamacare program. For about a year, Cheryl tried desperately to find answers to her hives and abdominal pain. In the absence of a cure for chronic hives, the doctors brushed off her concerns and sent her on her way.

On December 11, 2018, she was in so much abdominal pain that she was taken to the emergency room.  There the doctor was able to feel a mass in the area of her pancreas and ordered a CT scan.  The scan came back with a 6 cm mass either on her pancreas, or lymph nodes around her pancreas, and was encroaching on her hepatic artery.  Since the 11th of December, she has had two more CT scans.  The doctors then performed a needle biopsy which came back as inconclusive.  A surgical biopsy was required for diagnosis.

Yesterday, 1/16/2019  she underwent this procedure, and today the family received the diagnosis of Stage 4 Lymphoma in Cheryl's bone marrow. Cheryl will need chemo for the rest of her life, and the whole family is struggling with the results of her having been unable to work for such a long time and her enormous medical bills.

Lonnie and Trey's days consist of trying to liquidate her salon and anything of value, getting her enrolled in food stamps, Medicaid, disability, social security, and trying to get her energy assistance.  They are dealing with Cheryl's personal finances, business finances, property tax issues, sales taxes, all while trying to keep their own families and businesses healthy.

This is more than most of us could bear and, tragically, it is the horrific reality of the health care system in the US.  This should never happen. Good health care should not be the privilege of the privileged, but available to everyone. Good health care should not cause financial distress and ruin.  But it is, and it does - that is the sad fact in this country.

And so my friends, we are asking you to join us in helping this struggling family.  Let us band together and support these dear people in every way that we can.

Thank you all,
