Please help our town fight this monkey business!

We recently learned that Bainbridge and Decatur County officials have offered $58 million in incentives to bring a monkey farm to our town. This is a terrible deal for monkeys and residents alike. If built, it would be the largest monkey-holding facility outside Asia, imprisoning up to 30,000 monkeys—roughly two monkeys for every Bainbridge resident—and dwarfing the country’s next-largest facility, which holds about 7,000. The amount of suffering that would take place inside the proposed facility is nearly unimaginable.
The proposal threatens public health with oceans of biological waste produced daily, bringing with it a real threat of spreading disease and potentially harming the environment around it. Monkeys imported from overseas are likely carriers of dangerous pathogens and diseases that can easily spread to humans and other animals, including the herpes B virus, tuberculosis, Ebola-like viruses, and malaria.
Other crises in the making include inevitable escapes by monkeys, which would endanger the public’s health and safety, as shown by the numerous escapes from facilities that are orders of magnitude smaller.
We are currently fighting as a town to stop this monkey business from coming to Bainbridge.
Your support will afford us the ability to hire legal counsel, host events to educate the public, billboards, banners, yard signs, and printing.
*Please remember, the local people spending countless hours on this fight have full time demanding jobs, and have dedicated time away from their families and fur babies to make sure all of our voices are heard!
**We are not compensated in any way, except for the occasional pat on the back!
