Please Help Send Lauryn to Cornell

My name is Lauryn Hamilton, I am an active member in my school and community and rank at the top 5% of my class. I am a senior at John Hay Early College High School in Cleveland, Ohio. I was always interested in the sciences and have wanted to pursue a STEM career since I was young. I set my eye on Cornell University, as they are a powerhouse in STEM related fields. Being enrolled in a school district where the overall graduation rate is 69%, I realized getting into an Ivy League institution would be an uphill battle. However, I did not let this deter me. At age 15, I began attending Cleveland State University, a 20 minutes commute from my high school to take college courses. I utilized after school programs to boost my ACT scores and participated in a host of community organizations. Thankfully, my hard work earned me acceptance into my dream school with a major in biological sciences. I was overjoyed as I held my acceptance letter. However, my emotions quickly turned to despair when I read the award letter.
Due to my father working two jobs for the past 26 years, and my mother’s career as a social worker, I am not eligible for most federal financial aid. Since the day I was born, my parents have been saving money for this day. Even though my parents were able to save a significant amount, the cost far exceeds what we have. The expected total family contribution of $41,840 (per year) is insurmountable. Thus, I have been feverishly applying for scholarships. Unfortunately to date, I continue to be ineligible for many of them due to income guidelines for working parents. Without monetary assistance I fear I may not be able to attend Cornell University.
The current task at hand is to fund at least my first year of college. Even though this amount may seem unobtainable, so were the odds of me getting into Cornell. Therefore, I humbly ask for your investment in my future. Which would not only allow me to pursue my career, but be a role model for other young women interested in a STEM related career.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, any contribution would be greatly appreciated.
For those who are unable to contribute monetarily, please consider sharing my story.
*Please note: Since I am a minor, any funds collected will be managed by my mother, Angelina Hamilton.
