On 12/4/2015 Officer Jason Easton, a 10 year, veteran of the Aberdeen Police Department was responding to a call of reported suspicious activity. While Officer Easton was getting information from a potential suspect, he was shot in the face. The bullet that came out of the shotgun was a “bird shot” bullet. A bird shot bullet contains mini pellets, which are pieces of lead that disperse once they hit the air and their target. Officer Easton was hit on the left side of his face where these buckshot particles entered his check, face and left eye. One of the pellets went straight through his eye and it is currently resting on his optic nerve causing him to be legally blind in the left eye. He also suffers from constant pain and discomfort in his face because the pellets could not be removed.

Fast forward to present day 8/3/17, Officer Easton, his wife and his four children have been struggling financially and are in need of support and help of anyone who can and is willing. Unfortunately, Officer Easton has not received a paycheck since 4/1/17. (OMG WTF, RIGHT?!!!)

Initially when Officer Easton was injured, he was able to use sick and personal time to cover his base pay. Since it is a work related injury workman’s compensation was also able to supplement his income because he was unable to work, overtime, and receive his night differential. HOWEVER the kicker is…… wait for it…..Once Officer Easton was released from Workman’s Comp (because they will only cover a person for a specific time frame), which he exceeded,  he was then put on a leave without pay-status!!!!! huh?????

Sooooooo, this Officer who went to work on a daily basis to protect the people and put his life on the line and who is technically still an employee gets ZERO flipping dollars. Officer Easton and his wife have used all of their savings to cover any bills and daily living expenses as best they can since he has not received a paycheck. They are currently struggling financially and there is a likelihood  that they could lose their house since they have been unable to pay their mortgage since March 2017.

I met Sandi and Jason on Face Book in a group that focuses on injured officers and their struggles. We have become very close and we live parallel lives. If I could pay their mortgage and bills, I would but realistically I cannot. On behalf of the Easton family, I am asking anyone and everyone I know or do not know to help in any way you can. If you cannot help financially please share this story in hopes that this story will make it all over the world so that people can have the opportunity to help the Easton Family.
